The Hattie
BOO?
YAY!
Yay to Zimbabwean cotton...
Zimbabwean cotton is one of the highest-quality cottons you can get for denim. This doesn’t mean we’re referring to a specific species, grade, or type of cotton - simply where it was grown. But the climate does play a big part in the outcome of the crop.
Think of it like grape vines: the genetics of the plant, the place where it is grown, and specific conditions for that year’s harvest determine the quality of the wine (or cotton fibres). Zimbabwe has an ideal climate for growing cotton, and it is produced in small farms with little resources, which means that it is often picked and sorted by hand.
Hand-picking allows for easier separation of the most mature and most uniform cotton fibers (which are longer and stronger) without damaging them; machine harvested cotton may be damaged by the equipment. This also means less waste, as hand-picking is simply more precise. Because the fibres are longer, the material will feel softer. An added bonus is the glossier sheen, as the fibres tend to be smoother and give the tread more luster.
The Hattie offers:
